Entry #6 Safebucks

Starbucks has always made it's support of diversity and specifically the LGBT+ community very widely known. Whether it be supporting in the parades or donating to causes that help the community, they've never been shy about it.

On Wednesday Starbucks announced that their Seattle stores will now be official "Safe Places", as they team up with the Seattle police department. This is in an effort to help victims of violence and hate crimes in the LGBT+ community.

All of this among the recent "scandal", if you can even call it that, where many christian groups have been up in arms about the companies decision to remove their snowflake designs from their winter cups; instead opting for a simple and elegant red. This recent announcement has, predictably, caused even more controversy towards their brand with even the like of Donald Trump saying they should be boycotted.

Despite all of the pathetic hatred towards Starbucks for literally the dumbest thing ever, they haven't been stopped. This is a huge step forward as they are now the precedent for any other companies who want to show their support.

So how do you know if your local business is an LGBT+ safe place? Just look for the rainbow decal in their windows.

TL;DR Starbucks is awesome, as always

Entry #5 Crunching the numbers

In a not so recent article by the Arizona Republic we see the consideration by massive Arizona university ASU to create essentially crunch classes. They present the idea of taking 15 week courses and cramming them down to 7 1/2 weeks, meaning you could essentially take a years worth of classes in a semester, pretty cool right?

This would allow individuals who take accelerated online classes to hop directly into the classroom after they complete their course instead of waiting until the next semester; and also present the possibility of finishing college in half the time.
However as with everything in this world, there are negative side effects and nay-sayers to implementing this new 7 1/2 week system. Some of the faculty seems to think that these accelerated classes just wont do for certain academic courses. Another concern is the change in scheduling. The advanced classes would mean a loss in days for fall break and also a cut in its "minisemester" that is offered for 3 weeks in the winter season.

As to my thoughts on this concept? Well considering the fact that I am personally in one of those classes right now, and passed it's predecessor a few weeks ago, I'd have to say that it's been pretty great. Obviously this is just my personal opinion on the matter, and the fact that I currently do not have a job plays a huge role in my ability to manage my class times better. For someone who has a job or something else that consumes a chunk of their daily time, this may not be the best choice as work is fast paced and requires time outside of class.
However, there are still the traditional 15 week classes that provide longer deadlines and more in depth coverage of the course if speed isn't your cup of tea.

TL;DR If you want to finish college faster than average, take accelerated courses. If you don't, don't do it.

Entry #4 Lets get ready to Rumblr

Everyone is pretty much informed on the fact that online dating is a thing. If not, you're probably stuck in the 1900's. So with dating websites like Match.com and Farmersonly.com, the question for those who don't own a laptop is "is there an app for that?"
Yes. Yes there is.
One of the most popular apps for finding the love of your life in this day and age is by far,

But did you know that there is an app just like it, but for FIGHTING??
Yes you read that right fight club fans! Finally an app for "Casualty-free, casual fighting" and it's called

Currently it is in beta testing and only a select few will be receiving the golden email with download access to this wonder of modern society.
And I'm one of them.
Hopefully I'll be getting it soon, and when I do you can expect an update here with how my first rumble goes down.

Or maybe not, because y'know

TL;DR There's an app for fighting and I'm all about that

jk, it's not actually real. I did get the email and it was just a joke. It was upsetting.

Entry #3 Faux News

Fox news is notorious for being extremely biased in how it reports the news, but of course they've always denied the accusations that their reporting is anything other than ethical and fair. It doesn't take much to make a decision for yourself on whether they are a reliable news source, as almost every story they cover ( whether written or broadcast ) has an element of biased rhetoric.

The video posted above is an excellent example of slanted media at its core as it completely favors one side without explicitly saying it. The entire premise of the video is surrounded around the idea that our choice for president next year could be between Hilary Clinton and .........Donald Trump.....

Thus bringing the conversation of what each candidate brings to the table. This is when things start to get biased. In the video it becomes obvious that the Republican correspondents who also work for fox are favoring Trump in this debate, which is to be expected as after all they are republican. The issue comes when there is an astounding lack of democrats on the panel to defend Clinton.

The correspondents weren't completely positive about their rep but among the jabs at his more outlandish policies they still managed to put in some good words for him...

"His bluntness has a refreshing charm that has pushed him to the lead."
"He is seen as a strong leader"

....But none for Hilary as they focus entirely on her faults. This is not at all surprising as Fox has always been known to lean towards the republican side. However the blatancy with which they do it is the real issue.

This all just proves that when watching or reading news stories you have to take everything with a grain of salt. Always search for more than one source of information so as to have the broadest idea of what is actually going on and what each of the candidates brings with them.

TL;DR Don't trust everything you hear

Entry #2 Why

The Greek story of Icarus is pretty well known. You know, the one about the boy who flies too close to the sun so his fake wings melt and he dies? Well I found a metaphor comparing that to school and I have to say, I've never related more to anything in my life.

It said,  "Do you ever feel like you're pulling an academic Icarus flying too close to your deadlines on wings of deeply flawed time management?" Yes. Yes I do. Constantly. I'm feeling it right now actually, and it's awful. But it's not just me, I've found that it's a pretty common feeling that brings us all together.

Every time it's the same thing. There's a huge pile of responsibilities that need to be taken care of and you know that if you don't do it, you'll regret it. But are you going to let that stop you? Nah. You'll keep waiting until the anxiety becomes almost too much to bear and then scold yourself for putting it off as you work desperately to do what you should've done a week ago.

So yeah, I've got a million things I have to do right now. Am I going to do them? Probably not until the last minute. But honestly,

So I'll deal with it later.

TL;DR I need to get my life together and stop procrastinating

Entry #1 The internet is pretty chill

For the most part, the internet can be a pretty cool place. There's a lot to do, especially with an infinite array of cat videos at the tips of your fingers.

So you find yourself asking an impossible question, What is the most deserving of your valuable time? While catching up on the newest season of your favorite show is always a good bet I'd like to propose an alternative: Reading Blogs. Your first thought might be "ew no, why would I want to spend my time reading when I could be watching a video on how to make a cake on youtube even though I'll never try it???"

Honestly that was my first thought too. However, after digging through the internet for about two minutes I actually found myself pretty entertained. It was incredible to see just how varying the styles of blogs were. There was everything from political blogs to blogs about punching people in the throat. Case in point, http://www.peopleiwanttopunchinthethroat.com/ is a real blog!! I highly recommend going through and taking a look at this woman's hard work and personal thoughts. She's also written a couple books about punching people in the throat if you're interested in that.

If that's not exactly your cup of tea, I know what will be. http://www.celebritydachshund.com/ is the website everyone has to go to at least once. This is another personal blog, although this one is a bit less angry than the previous as it features a super cute dachshund and his daily adventures.

In my honest professional opinion as an internet veteran, I am definitely endorsing blogs as a great use of time. Whether making your own or just surfing through someone elses, Blogging gets a solid 9/10.

TL;DR  Stop wasting your time and go check out some more blogs. (some of which also have cat videos)
